Some easy quick wins to making your school website work


Even when parents already know your school your website is an important shop window – use our checklist to make sure your website is converting open day interest into bums on seats!

  • Spend some time checking that all the info is up to date. If pages are missing information and there’s not time to add it, just deactivate them for now.
  • Use the home page to flag up your open day with a clear call to action – e.g. Join us for our Open Day on Thursday 3rd October – Book Here.
  • Use EventBrite (free for free events) to get people to pre-register for the Open Event – that way you have both an idea of numbers and contact details to follow up attendees with a Thanks for coming note and offer to provide any further info they may need.
  • Create a set of quick links on your home page to the half dozen bits of information that you know parents will be looking for like your exam results, your Ofsted, wellbeing policies, uniform, extra curricular and so on.
  • Check your website is responsive (in other words it adjusts itself automatically based on the device being used to view your site). Latest Office for National Statistics show that among all adults 78 per cent use mobile phones to access the internet. Making sure your website is easy to view – and as crucially, interact with – on a mobile is essential. For example, if you’re asking people to register fill in forms or read specific bits of information test that they work on mobile first!
