The brief

South Bank Engineering UTC is a school for 14-19 year-olds in South London delivering technical education, as well as core curriculum subjects. Having worked with the Academy Trust that the UTC is part of, we were asked to create a fresh new website that demonstrated the school's specialisms, in an attractive and engaging way and that was easily updateable by the school team.

Our response

Our first task was to undertake a thorough review of the current school website, as well as other local secondary school and UTC websites. The review covered content, look and feel, user journey, discoverability via search (SEO) and key messages. With the benefit of this research we created a new structure for the website, including developing a set of wireframes to experiment with various page layouts.

We then set about working with the school to identify compelling content for the radically overhauled navigation, as well as making sure that the website was both Ofsted and GDPR compliant. The design was contemporary and clean, with lots of visual content to illustrate life at the UTC. We built the whole site in an easy to use content management system, which means that the UTC has full control of updating with the added benefit of our support as and when they need it.

We procured the services of Communitas for the rebuild and relaunch of our website. Having completed a successful rebrand and launch of our Trust’s digital platform, we were impressed with the creative and design element of their work, so they were our first choice and did not let us down!

Ken and the team really listened to us and took on board our branding and messaging. They understood our specialism and incorporated this into the look and feel of the website. They provided invaluable advice about the amount of content and the statutory items we should include. A fantastic team to work with!
